Covid-19 and Nordic Skiing

Unfortunately in these difficult times, account has to be taken of the virus.  Happily, Nordic skiing avoids most of the issues.

All courses take place outdoors, in an open and natural environment, perfect for maintaining social distancing.  Unlike downhill skiing, there are no ski lifts and therefore no queues or crowds and no requirement for a Passe Sanitaire.

If you book a lesson, either individually or in your own group, you will not share the lesson with anyone else.

These rules are always subject to change according to the health situation.

Covid Protocol

In the hire shop

  • You must wear a mask.
  • All equipment will be disinfected by the shop staff.
  • Alcoholic gel will be available.

Public Transport such as the Ski Bus

  • You must wear a mask whilst waiting at the bus stop and on the bus.

In the ski area

Wearing a mask is mandatory :

  • In car parks
  • When buying access tickets
  • During Nordic Pass checks
  • Start of the pistes. The mask can be removed once on the slopes for cross-country skiing.

At the lesson meeting point

  • You, and I, must wear a mask at the beginning and end of each lesson.  Children up to and including 10 years old are exempt from mask wearing.
  • Inside buildings, such as the Chalet d'Acceuil at Joux Plane, mask wearing is mandatory for all over the age of 10 years.  Alcoholic gel will be available, and surfaces will be regularly disinfected.

A good graphical guide to the protocol is available on the France Montagne website.  This page was last updated on 15 November and consequently does not mention the requirements for a Passe Sanitaire for alpine skiing.  The document is only available in French.  The page will open in a new tab in your browser.
